Juan Bernat has scored his first ever World Cup goal and it is one that will go down in the history books.

Bernat, who played for Barcelona during his career, was named on the bench to replace Sergio Busquets in the match against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Parc des Princes stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Brazilian midfielder had been out injured for several months, but he was given a chance to prove himself and score his first World Cup goal.

In the first half, Bernat had an impressive performance with his header off a corner kick from Antoine Griezmann, but the French side were able to hold onto the lead thanks to a penalty from Thiago Silva.

However, Bernat showed his worth again in the second half when he scored a winner in the 75th minute, converting a penalty following a corner kick from Kylian Mbappé.

Bernat's goal came after he had already made a series of saves to keep out several shots by the PSG defenders.

He said: "It's always difficult to play in front of so many people, especially when you're on your own and you have to make sure you give the ball back to the team.

"I felt really confident playing this game and I tried to get the ball back into the box.

"It was a tough moment, but I just wanted to put my best foot forward and try to score."

Bernat's goal was particularly important because it gave PSG a much-needed boost ahead of their next game against Manchester United on Wednesday.

He added: "I'm happy to be back in the national team and to be playing football for my country.

"I feel like I've done well in training and I want to continue to improve every day."

Bernat also praised his teammates for their support during his injury recovery period.

"Everyone is very supportive of me," he said. "They understand what I'm going through and they're there for me.

"Their love for me and our friendship means everything to me."
